At the 85th Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, Inua Advocacy CEO and refugee rights advocate Innocent Magambi delivered a powerful statement highlighting the plight of refugees in Malawi. Drawing from his own lived experience of being born and raised in refugee camps, Magambi exposed the deep injustices faced by refugees confined in Dzaleka Camp, including human trafficking networks, denial of basic rights, and the long-lasting trauma of forced relocation. He called on African leaders not only to support Malawi’s new administration in reforming refugee policies, but to stand up for the dignity, protection, and integration of refugees as equal members of the African family deserving justice, opportunity, and hope.
