As the world commemorates World Refugee Day 2026, we reflect on the life of refugees and asylum seekers in Malawi. This statement raises concerns about protection gaps, allegations of corruption and abuse of authority, trafficking risks, and delays in refugee status determination among other things. It also highlights the impact of declining humanitarian assistance and the continued challenges posed by encampment policies. As an organisation, we are calling for greater accountability, stronger protection mechanisms, and reforms that uphold the rights, dignity, and aspirations of refugees and asylum seekers in Malawi.
